Induction vs Infrared: How to Choose an Electric Stove in Nepal

Both are electric, but they heat differently, and that decides which pots you can use. Induction heats the pot directly through a magnetic field, so it is fast and the glass stays cooler. Infrared heats a coil under the glass, which then heats any vessel placed on it.

  • Cookware: induction needs a magnetic, flat-bottomed pot. If a fridge magnet sticks firmly to the base, it will work. Plain aluminium, copper, glass and clay pots will not. Infrared works with any flat vessel, including aluminium pressure cookers.
  • Hybrid option: the ULTRATEC UTINIF-P22 and UTINIF-E20 combine induction and infrared heating, so a wider range of existing cookware can be used.
  • Wattage and wiring: a 2000–2200W stove draws roughly 9–10 amps at 230V. Plug it into a sound wall socket rated for that load, not a thin extension board. A 5000W commercial unit needs a dedicated circuit checked by an electrician.
  • Voltage fluctuation: the 18B1 and UTINIF-E20 accept 88–280V input, and the DT215, UTINIF-P22 and UTINIF-E20 include an automatic voltage regulator.
  • Load-shedding and inverters: most home inverters are sized for lights, fans and a TV. Running a 2000W cooktop on backup needs an inverter and battery bank rated for that load, or a properly sized solar system.

Induction Chulo and Infrared Stove Models Compared

Our models cover simple single burners, feature-rich stoves and commercial use:

  • ULTRA DT209 Infrared Cooktop: 2000W, push-button control, digital display, auto shut-off and overheat protection.
  • ULTRA A3B Induction Cooktop: 2000W, push buttons with boil, fry and simmer modes, child lock and auto shut-off.
  • ULTRA DT215 Premium Infrared Stove: 2200W, touch control, 8 temperature levels, timer and a mirror-finish black crystal plate.
  • ULTRA 18B1 Induction Cooktop: 2000W, 7 preset modes, 8 temperature levels, timer and 88–280V input.
  • ULTRATEC UTINIF-E20 Hybrid Stove: 2200W induction + infrared, 6 cooking functions, 8 temperature levels and about 5 kg.
  • ULTRATEC UTINIF-P22 Hybrid Stove: two zones at 2200W + 2200W for cooking two dishes at once, sensor touch control and A-grade black crystal plate.
  • ULTRA 5000K Commercial Induction Cooker: 5000W, 93% or higher efficiency, knob control, automatic cooling fan and protection against over-temperature and voltage swings.

Induction Cooker Price in Nepal: What Changes the Price

At the lower end, single-burner 2000W cooktops such as the DT209 and A3B keep things simple with push buttons and basic modes. Paying a little more adds touch controls, timers, more temperature levels, wide voltage input and an automatic voltage regulator, as on the DT215 and 18B1.

Hybrid stoves cost more because they combine induction and infrared heating, and the UTINIF-P22 adds a second cooking zone. The top of the range, up to Rs. 45,000, is the 5000W commercial induction cooker, built for long hours in restaurant and canteen kitchens with fan cooling and heavier protection.

Using an Electric Stove Alongside LPG

Many Nepali households keep their LPG stove and add an induction or infrared cooktop for everyday tasks such as boiling water, making tea, cooking rice and simmering dal. This stretches each gas cylinder further and means dinner is not delayed when a cylinder runs out. Induction is especially quick for boiling and needs no flame, which also keeps the kitchen cooler in summer. For larger families, a two-zone stove like the UTINIF-P22 lets you cook two dishes at once without using gas at all.

Delivery, Warranty and After-Sales Support

Home cooktops are plug-in appliances, so they are ready to use once delivered. Mega Solar Energy delivers across Nepal and, for the commercial 5000W model, can check that your kitchen wiring is suitable before installation.

Six of our seven models list a 1 year warranty in their specifications; warranty terms for the commercial 5000K are confirmed at purchase. To keep a cooktop working well, wipe the glass once it cools, keep the air vents clear, and avoid sliding heavy pots across the surface.

Frequently asked questions

What is the induction cooker price in Nepal?+

At Mega Solar Energy, induction cookers and infrared stoves range from Rs. 3,600 to Rs. 45,000 across 7 models. Basic 2000W home cooktops are at the lower end, hybrid induction + infrared stoves sit in the middle, and the 5000W commercial induction cooker is at the top. Current prices are on each product page.

What is the difference between an induction and an infrared stove?+

An induction stove heats the pot directly using a magnetic field, so it only works with magnetic, flat-bottomed cookware. An infrared stove heats a coil under the glass and works with any flat vessel, including aluminium. Hybrid stoves combine both heating types in one unit.

Will my pressure cooker work on an induction chulo?+

Only if its base is magnetic. Hold a magnet to the bottom of the cooker: if it sticks firmly, it will work on induction. Most plain aluminium pressure cookers will not, unless they have an induction base. An infrared stove works with any flat-bottomed cooker.

Can I run an induction cooker on an inverter during load-shedding?+

A 2000–2200W cooktop needs an inverter and battery bank rated for that load. Most home inverters are sized for lights and fans and will trip or drain quickly. If you want to cook on backup power, size the inverter or solar system for the cooktop's wattage.

What warranty do induction and infrared cooktops have?+

Six of the seven cooktops in our catalog list a 1 year warranty in their specifications, including the DT209, A3B, 18B1, DT215 and both ULTRATEC hybrid stoves. Warranty terms for the ULTRA 5000K commercial induction cooker are confirmed at the time of purchase.

Do you deliver electric stoves outside Kathmandu?+

Yes. Mega Solar Energy is based in Gokarneshwor, Jorpati, Kathmandu and delivers induction cookers and infrared stoves across Nepal. Home cooktops are plug-in and ready to use, while the 5000W commercial model may need a dedicated circuit, which we can advise on.
